Following 8 months of energy and commitment by residents and staff at Tung Sing Housing Association, the new Bi-lingual Tung Sing “Sign Up” DVD was launched on 25^th July 2008. More than 50 residents participated in the launch day event

 

 

The DVD will be given to all new residents when they move into their new home, to let them know all about their rights and their responsibilities as a resident. To fulfill the language needs of Tung Sing residents, the DVD was produced in both English and Cantonese

 

30 residents have put enormous effort into this project, by helping formulate ideas for what should be included in the DVD. They were also trained on how to use video recording equipment, worked as assistant directors and actors, and helped review draft versions of the DVD

 

Susana Cheung, a Tung Sing resident said: “I enjoyed being involved in the production and have found this DVD very useful to us. As nearly 40% of Tung Sing residents are Chinese and the majorities do not understand English, the DVD was also produced in Cantonese, to fulfill our language needs.”

 

Yen Siang Tan, Resident Involvement Coordinator for Tung Sing led on the project and said: “It’s been a fantastic experience, working closely with our residents. This DVD could not have been completed, without their efforts. In addition, some of them have identified key skills in their own abilities and are keen to be involved in similar projects in future.”
